To describe what you’ll experience would ruin the course for you but suffice to say you won’t be sat round a plastic dummy all day in a class room. Whether you’re going to Everest or just need the self-assurance to deal with medical situations at work, this course will teach you in a way no other can, with professionals who practice emergency medicine day in day out. When was the last time you went on a first aid course and the trainer said “I used this technique last week on a 69 year old lady who’d fallen in a bailing machine”? The Prometheus team are real doctors with army and civilian experience and they really know what they’re doing and they’re keen to transfer that knowledge to you.
At the end of the course I felt really well prepared to face any emergency, the simulated emergencies created by Prometheus gave me the confidence and knowledge to face any eventuality and take control of the situation. In fact rather macabre-ly for about a week after I couldn’t wait for someone to suffer an extreme paper cut in the office.
Yes the course may be a bit extreme for work first aid but the only reservation you should have about going is that you might prevent someone who’s doing an expedition getting on the course. The reality is once you’ve done the role play on the surviving adventure course you’ll be so much better prepared for dealing with a medical emergency where ever you find it; home, work, or Everest.
