After a lovely meal last night and excellent accommodation, we made our way to see Mr Sergio Bertani to thank him in person, Bertani are a major importers of Land Rover products to Italy and we had a chance to see their vehicle preparation areas and chat to their Land Rover specialists. They even kindly topped up our fuel tanks to help us on our way – thank you once again.
By mid-morning we were on the road again heading towards Lake Garda. The road skirted around the lake for a good way with fantastic views – especially with the hot sunny weather. We stopped for lunch alongside the lake which was tricky as we need somewhere to park five vehicles which isn't always easy. But luck was on our side (much to our relief as a toilet stop was needed!) and we parked up not far from the lake shore and straight outside a small Pizzeria restaurant. They were lovely and cheerful, and our meal order was helped along by a Dutch lady at the next table. She had been resident in Italy for many years and also spoke excellent English.
We dug out some of our art competition entry forms and colouring pens for her kids and hopefully they'll submit us a great picture. A local police officer did pop over to see our cars – we were happy to show him the vehicles as he was very interested in our trip (translation services helped out again!). We then very quickly went to the lakeside before we left – had to dip our toes in. Craig (obviously prepared) stripped off to reveal swimming trunks and dove straight in – the temperature was pretty chilly and his voice did seem slightly higher for a while afterwards!
The rest of the afternoon and early evening was spent driving to Munich where we've set up for camping tonight. We arrived at about 8pm and an old colleague of Gary's, Mike Gray had arranged to meet us at the campsite - which was especially well timed as it's Gary's Birthday today. Mike met us at the campsite entrance ready with a crate of beer – cheers Mike! We the set-up camp in double quick time and headed about 5 minutes walk away to a lovely beer garden – just made it before the kitchen's closed and we manged to sit outside under the patio heaters (pretty chilly once the sun had gone down) and had a lovely meal.
